Last week we had Orlando Lam and Louis Long, both recent Drexel Alumni, come and speak to us about their experience in Private Equity. Louis is currently in the analyst development program at Hamilton Lane and Orlando, after a two year stint in investment banking at Boeinng Scattergood, now works at Alliance Holdings.
There were three main actionable takeaways from the meeting.
1) Be responsive, if someone is reaching out to you to and helping set up an opportunity respond promptly and make the process as easy for them as possible.
2) Don’t be afraid to apply to many firms at graduation. Applying can never hurt and keeping track of your applications and their respective deadlines will help.
3) Look outside of big bracket banks. If you aren’t having success with larger companies who hire directly from target schools don’t be afraid to apply to local companies or mid-market firms.
